4 Fun Rhyming Picture Books

I love rhyming picture books. I love their rhythmical repetition and sing-song style. And I love how kids remember them and quickly learn to recite them during story time.

There are so many good rhyming picture books available, but here are four of my favourites:

1. The Dragon and the Nibblesome Knight by Elli Woollard and Benji Davies

I love this book. Not only is the rhyming flawless, but the storyline is also hilarious!

It's about a young dragon who is sent on a quest to bite a knight. But when the dragon crash-lands, he makes friends with a boy who comes to his aid. The boy is, of course, a knight who's been raised to fight dragons. But having never met a dragon before, the boy doesn't know he's helping his enemy.

The illustrations are vibrant and fun and the whole story is a joy to read aloud. Click here for my Kids' Book Review review!

2. I'm In Charge by Jeanne Willis and Jarvis

This is a funny rhyming tale about a bossy rhino who thinks he knows best. Of course, he doesn't, and he ends up learning the hard way to listen to the other animals' advice.

I love this one because it reminds me of every young child in the history of the universe, and the rhyme is perfect!

The illustrations are also gorgeous and unique.

3. Digby and the Yodelayhee... Who? by Renee Price and Anil Tortop

In this funky picture book, young Digby Fixit is trying to uncover what is making a super duper musical noise. He investigates with his friends and together they uncover the mystery sound.

There are both rhyming and non-rhyming parts in this book, and the changeover between the two formats is absolutely flawless.

I also love that this book introduces kids to a range of cool musical instruments, and there's a QR code at the back so you can listen to music from the story.

The illustrations are also amazing. Every page pops with colour, and the pictures are very engaging for kids. Click here for my full review over at KBR!

4. Crocodile Cake by Palo Morgan and Chris Nixon

Crocodile Cake is a fun and quirky rhyming story about a girl who bakes a crocodile shaped cake. But the cake comes to life and starts eating her family, so the girl must battle the croc to save the day.

This vibrant and colourful picture book is so much fun to read aloud and is filled with action, adventure and suspense. What more could you ask for?
