Sweet Potato Biscuits

I’m always looking for snack foods for the kids that incorporate vegetables. These sweet potato biscuits are my new favourite (so good I keep eating them before the kids get a chance!)


  • 1½ cups self raising flour (or 1½ cups all purpose flour plus 1 tablespoon of baking powder)

  • 6 tablespoons cold butter, cut into small pieces

  • 3/4 cup cooked sweet potato, pureed

  • 1/3 cup milk


  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius.

  • Add the butter to the flour and use your fingers to rub the butter into the flour until you have a crumbly mixture.

  • Refrigerate the mixture for 10 minutes.

  • Add the sweet potato puree and the milk to the flour mixture and combine to make a dough.

  • Remove the dough onto a flour-dusted surface and dust the top with a little more flour. Shape the dough into a thick sausage shape and slice the dough into biscuits.

  • Place the biscuits on a lined baking tray, dust with a little extra flour and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. 

These babies are best served warm, but I’ve been known to eat them up to three days after they have been baked.
