I love all things miniature, so it was inevitable that I would end up buying a dollhouse for my two girls. I found a scratched up second hand one that is just perfect for not-so-careful little ones, but I found it really hard to find small dolls that I liked.
So what do you do when you can’t find what you’re looking for at the shops? You design something yourself, of course!
Hand sewing seemed easier than getting the sewing machine out, and felt is always forgiving when it comes to creating, so I drew out a pattern for a simple doll. Being the lover of all things magical that I am, my doll was destined to be something ‘other worldly’. And here she is: my felt pixie doll.
Now, I’m not a fabulous sewer, so believe me when I say these are pretty easy. There are some fiddly bits, but I made this little girl in an evening.
I’ve included my pattern and accompanying instructions as a PDF if you’d like to give it a try. You can use whatever colours you like and add more details to the dress and hair if you want something a little fancier. The toy eyes shown in the picture are from eBay, but you can just as easily sew them on with thread or even draw them on with markers.
I hope you have fun creating, and if you do have a go, post pictures of your creations in the comments for this blog post on my Facebook page. I’d love to see them!
